The challenge
A minimalist interior with flush, handle-free joinery throughout — a standard landing door with a visible frame would have broken the language of every wall.
Our approach
Landing doors were finished to match the wall panels and set flush with them, and the operating panel was recessed so nothing protrudes into the corridor.
The interior at Wang Zhuang runs on a single rule: nothing protrudes. Cabinetry is handle-free, switches are flush, and skirting is recessed rather than applied.
A standard lift entrance would have broken that language immediately — landing doors normally arrive with a visible frame and a call panel bolted to the wall. We finished the landing doors in the same muted grey as the wall panels and set them flush, then recessed the operating panel so it sits behind the plane of the corridor.
The result is a lift most visitors do not identify until it opens. Its owners describe it as the quietest thing in the house, which given the standard of the joinery is a considerable compliment.
